General Course Information
Retail development and retention is a hot topic for municipal leaders, and the reasons are apparent.  Retail increases sales and property tax revenues, adds permanent jobs and satisfies citizens desire to shop at home.  Understanding the needs of retailers helps you address those needs and retain them in your community.

CALED, SVEDA and Buxton have joined forces to help you gain competitive advantage by understanding the fundamentals and the next frontier in retail development.  This two-day conference gives you hands-on tools, techniques and know-how to effectively market your community to attract and retain retailers and restaurants.  You will hear from speakers from the retail side who actually work to select locations, as well as California community leaders who will share their best practices and how to convert strategies into actions that grow your retail sector.

Takeaways Include:

o    An understanding of the importance of relationships with brokers and site selectors
o    Effects incentives have on retail recruitment
o    Tips and techniques for retail development in underserved markets
o    What retailers are looking for from your community
o    Knowledge of the pros and cons of self-leasing
o    The value of developing an internal support team
